Rash, age 66, of Mountain City, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Roy was on July 25, 1939, in Trade, TN, to the late Glen and Opal Rash. He was a lifelong Roy Rash native of Johnson County. He was a police officer for four years and the Chief of Police for Mountain City for 13 years, Mountain City Public Works Dept.

for five years, the sheriff for Johnson County for four years and a security officer at Johnson County Health Center. Roy was a member of God's Country Church. In addition to his parents, he was preCarol ceded in death by one step daughter, Shelton; three step-sons, Bill, Bobby and Doug Shelton. Survivors include his wife, Rilda M. Rash; two daughters, Eva Jo Jones and husband, Ray, and Terry Rash, all of Morehead City, NC; two step daughters, Phyllis Osborne, of West Grove, PA, and Annette Shelton, of Greenville, SC; sister, Louise Adams and husband, Charlie, of Mountain City; special friend, Rhonda Proffitt, of Mountain City; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 2006, at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service for' Roy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at God's Country Church with Pastor Ronnie Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Snyder-Rash Cemetery.

Mr. Boyd was a son of the late Lewis and Bessie Hammer Boyd and was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harris Boyd, in 2005; a sister, Louise Morrell; and three brothers Paul Boyd, Ernest Boyd and Elmer Boyd. He retired as assistant manager from Peoples Drug Store after a thirty-five year career. Mr.

Boyd was a WWII veteran of the US Navy. During the war he served his country as a Pharmacist's Mate. He was a former member of the American Legion and was an avid gardener. He was a longtime member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr.

Boyd is survived by his two children, Linda Boyd Brown, Chicago, IL, and John Edward Boyd, of the home; a sister, Velma Church, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. A native of Butler, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Liza Gregg Hazel Cable Watson. Mrs.

Cable was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a very devoted Christian who was loved by everyone who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie J. Cable, in 1985: one sister: and four brothers. Mrs.

Howard Hale PINEY FLATS Howard T. Hale, 88, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at his home. He was born Wednesday, August 11, 1917, to the late George B. and Bertie Gibson Howard Hale Hale and attended University High School. He was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church.

Mr. Hale had retired as a body repairman for Tennessee Motor Company after 40 years of service and also owned his own auto body repair shop at his residence. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hale was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Bonny Hale. Survivors include wife of 65 years, Laura Owen Hale; two daughters, Georgianna Morehead, of Blountville, and Rebecca Jane Pennix, of Bristol, Tennessee; two sons, James Donald Hale, of Johnson City, and Howard Thomas Hale of Piney Flats, ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of co*cke County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Angeline Debusk Wilds. She had lived and worked in Carter County since she graduated from Milligan College. She taught school at Unaka High School for 41 years. She was instrumental in starting the hot lunch program and the PTA, serving in local and district offices. She was always interested in the programs of the school and students.

She was honored at many different class reunions by being crowned Queen or with a limousine ride to the reunions for her love and devotion shown to the students while they attended Unaka High School. Mrs. Hyder was a member of the Unaka Baptist Church, where she was a teacher of the Adult Ladies Class and church Librarian. She belonged to the Elizabethton Women Club and Retired Reaching Association, where she took an active part. She served as a Pink Lady at the former Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore.

Shoals Hospital. She organized various drives as March of Dimes, Heart Fund and Polio. In 1993, she was honored by the Modern Woodmen of America and was presented a Certificate of recognition for outstanding community services. She was preceded in death by six sisters and five brothers. Survivors include her husband of 61 years Conway Hyder; A Daughter and Son-in-Law: Norine and John Allen, Elizabethton; A Son Daughter-In-Law: Jim and Adeline Hyder, Elizabethton; Her Grandchildren: Jamie Allen, Holli 0'Quinn and her husband, Danny, and Cameron Hyder; Her Great Grandchildren: Patrick, Madeline and Dawson 0'Quinn; Several special Nieces Nephews.

Willard Clarence Moffitt, age 64, went home to be with his Lord and Savior April 18, 2006.

He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Son. He was born in Mitchell County, N.C. He was chairman of the Deacons and Treasurer at Spring Creek Baptist Church. He Former area newspaper owner Worrell dies at 86 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. T. Eugene "Gene" Worrell, 86, a former newspaper publisher, died Thursday in a Charlottesville hospital. Worrell at one time owned 40 to 50 newspapers across the United States, including the Bristol Virginia-Tennessean, which later merged into the Bristol Herald Courier. He also was the former owner of the Elizabethton (Tenn.) Star.

"He was a great guy. He never seemed to forget anyone and had a knack for success," said Johnson City (Tenn.) Press publisher Arthur S. Powers, a former employee of Worrell at the Bristol newspapers. Worrell was educated as an attorney, graduating from Wake Forest University. He also served as an FBI agent and ran for Congress, losing a represent Southwest Virginia's 9th Congressional District.

Worrell was an author and a big game hunter who wrote "The Hunting Guide." According to Powers, Worrell had many African trophies in his office in Charlottesville. He loved wildlife art. Worrell was an avid collector, especially collecting coins and knives. Major quake hits distant Russian region THE ASSOCIATED PRESS MOSCOW A major earthquake hit a distant, sparsely populated region of Russia's Far East early Friday, causing unknown damage and possible casualties, an emergency official said.
